Whist or wisht hounds, as goes the legend, are the nefarious, spectral hellhounds reputed to haunt Wistman's Wood in Dartmoor. Huge slathering beasts with fiendish appetites, these menacing creatures leave their reputed lair in the woods by nightfall and head for the Moor baying for blood.
