Goddess of Spring | Queen of the Underworld

Worshipped as the goddess of spring growth, her mother being Demeter, Goddess of the Harvest.
Seized by Hades as she was playing with her Nymph in a flowering meadow, she was taken to the underworld as his unwilling bride. Despairing for her daughter, Demeter searched the world with Hecate, bearing flaming torches, refusing to let the earth flourish until Persephone was returned.
As she had tasted the fruit of Hades, a handful of pomegranate seeds, Persephone was forced to return to the underworld for half of the year, resulting in the halting of all growth and dying of earth's bounty. Returning to earth once again in the second half of the year, marked by the flowering meadows, fruit and grain, otherwise known as the resurrection of spring.
