Hades 'the unseen one' presided over the invisible world, the place where human souls go after death.
As ruler of the dead, Hades was an ominous character, inspiring a terrifying awe.
Portrayed as a bearded, solemn figure with a mournful expression, Hades is often depicted wearing a helmet called the Helm of Darkness or Cap of Invisibility and holding a two pronged bident, his weapon of choice. By his side stood Cerberus, the three-headed dog, who guarded the entrance to the Underworld.
Called the 'Infernal Zeus' by Homer, he was labelled the Attractor of Man since all eventually went to serve him.
